Ramone Nelson was born in Atlanta, GA and welcomed to a family of 4 brothers and 1 sister (I know…HUGE). Ramone went down the same path of his brothers playing football, basketball, and baseball, before eventually getting bit by the performance bug and began to play the Alto Saxophone.

Ramone still had theatre in the back of his mind but band was his focus until he was cast as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables. Jean Valjean changed his life. He began to see the impact theatre has on all people and made a promise to a family friend to never stop! He began to gain accolades in the region like Best Leading Actor for his portrayal of Troy Maxson in August Wilson’s Fences. Ramone was later nominated for his portrayal of Jean Valjean in Les Miserables and was awarded the best performance by a leading actor for the Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards (The Shuler Awards), which led him to the National Musical Theatre Awards (The Jimmy’s). He was recently named a National YoungArts Finalist in Theatre, where he had the pleasure to work with Michael McElroy, Peter Jay Fernandez, MaryAnn Hu, and Kenneth Noel Mitchell to name a few.

After many college auditions, Ramone made the decision to attend THE Florida State University to pursue a BFA in Musical Theatre. He has had the time of his life there, learning and growing from his professors, friends, and the beautiful class of MT’ 21! GO NOLES!

When Ramone is not performing, you may spot him at the gym, cooking a meal, or spending some much needed time with friends and family.
